Featured Photographer

Cecil Beaton was born on January 14, 1904. As a little boy, Beaton learned how to take and develop photos on his nanny’s Kodak 3A camera. He would have family members pose for various photos, and when he became more skillful and his photos were more apt, he sent his work to London society magazines. Beaton would write recommendations for himself under a factitious name. Beaton studied history and architecture at Cambridge. Through a network of contacts he was able to meet, and photograph the Duchess of Malfi. Even though the photos was slightly out of focus, Vogue bought, and printed the pictures. Beaton studied photography at Paul Tanqueary, until Vogue took and published his photos regularly. Beaton is well known for his photos of fashion. He worked as staff photographer for Vanity fair and Vogue.
I enjoy Beaton’s work. even though he takes fashion pictures for magazines, which are not usually my favorite, he is able to add a certain amount of flair in his work.
